Review: Afternoon Tea at Caffè Concerto

Hello there!
For myself and my boyfriend's anniversary we went to Caffè Concerto in London for afternoon tea. The restaurant we visited was in Piccadilly and the atmosphere was very calm and elegant. The staff were also very helpful and you could see how hard they worked to ensure you had an enjoyable visit. This is a review of my experience including the tea, savouries and sweets. Enjoy!

Review: Afternoon Tea at Caffè Concerto*

Tea and Prosecco:

We enjoyed a sparkling afternoon tea which meant we had a glass of prosecco each with a raspberry in it as well as a choice of teas from a range of Mighty Leaf world teas. The prosecco was very nice as it wasn't too tart or sour so paired very well with the scones and sweet treats. In addition, the tea selection was a good range but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. I had chamomile tea which was refreshing and light.

Savoury:

The savouries of the afternoon tea included a range of sandwiches including cucumber and cream cheese, salmon and cream cheese, creamy chicken and beef and gherkin. I liked how they used a range of breads as there was white sliced bread as well brioche-style rolls used which improved the appearance on the stand. Personally, I do prefer there to be a range of other savouries like mini quiches, however, the sandwiches they offered were a good range. The cucumber and salmon sandwiches were very traditional yet done well. The salmon sandwiches were full of salmon so definitely value for money and full of flavour.
My boyfriend informed me that the chicken and beef sandwiches were tender and full of flavour. The main critique I would say is that the filling of the sandwiches were a little uneven as some were very full, whilst others had a little less in. Apart from that, they were a traditional selection done fairly well.

Sweets:

The scones were my favourite part of the whole afternoon tea as they were extremely light and melted in the mouth. Both the plain and fruit scones were as good as each other, however, more clotted cream was needed than the one pot given to us to share across 4 scones. The jam was sweet and had a strong strawberry flavour and I think the individual jars looked quite cute on the stand.

The selection of sweets were a range of chocolate, custard and fruit flavours. I liked how there was a range of different textures from pastries, biscuits and chocolate brownies. The lemon cheesecake was very rich and had a strong lemon topping, however, I think it may have been a little too rich when paired with other sweet treats.
The mille feuille was very elegant with the feathered icing on top and the vanilla flavour in the custard was rich and creamy. The puff pastry just needed to be a little more crisp as it was a bit on the tough side, although that may have been from the custard making the pastry less crisp.
The tartlet filled with crème pâtissière was a lovely texture as the filling was smooth and paired with the slightly sour blueberries was a good combination. The shortcrust pastry case was very short in texture but the pastry could have been a little thinner so it would be crispier.
In addition, the chocolate brownie with white chocolate ganache was super indulgent and rich so perfect as a treat, though a little sickly when paired with so many sweet items. A fruity touch like a raspberry on top would have balanced this out well. Overall, the sweet items were a lovely range of flavours and textures.
