Afternoon Tea in Covent Garden
Hello there!
For my 17th Birthday last month I went to a restaurant in Covent Garden called Boulevard Brasserie* so I thought I would do a review on the experience. Enjoy!I went to Boulevard Brasserie on a Saturday with my boyfriend and found that the restaurant had a very good atmosphere. We sat upstairs and there was a lovely view of flowers on a small balcony to our left which really brightened the place up. The addition of the French patisserie-style posters around the place really added to the whole experience. We had the traditional afternoon tea which was £21.95 per person. Personally I thought the cost was quite reasonable since we got lots of different treats and unlimited teapots of tea.
Teas:
The mismatching tea cups and saucers added lots of character |
Peach & Rhubarb - This is the first tea that I tried while we waited for the main stand of afternoon tea treats to arrive. In the meantime we were also given lemon posset meringues were very light and the lemon posset had a lovely creamy texture. I really liked the peach and rhubarb tea as it's quite different from anything I've really tried. I often go for floral or berry teas but this was a bit more special than your normal rose tea. You could certainly smell the beautiful peach and the rhubarb wasn't a sour taste like I was sort of expecting. The flavour was very subtle and worked very well with the sweet products in the afternoon tea. Definitely a tea I will be looking out for in supermarkets and for whenever I go to a tea room again.
Lemongrass, Ginger & Citrus - This was the second type of tea that I tried and I was again pleasantly surprised with the flavour combinations. I have lemon green tea every morning so I knew I would like the citrus elements but I was a little unsure about how much I would enjoy the ginger. However, it was a nice level of spice from the ginger as it didn't have that after burn some strong ginger teas have. I found this tea also had a very pleasant aroma. Out of the two my favourite was the peach and rhubarb tea but I still enjoyed both.
Thoughts on the Food:
I liked the aesthetics of the whole experience |
The next thing we devoured were the sweet treat miniatures, this included macrons, an extremely light chocolate brownie and mini pieces of a coconut and poppy seed tart. I thought the flavours throughout all of them were lovely and you could tell that a lot of work went into each product. The cuts, for example, were very precise. The size of each miniatures was just right as you didn't feel over full once you'd eaten them.
After the miniatures we tried the traditional scones. Two of them had raisins in while the other two were plain and we could smother them in lots of jam and cream as they were happy to bring you more if you ran out. At this point we were rather full so we couldn't manage all the scones, despite them being very soft and slightly warm in the centre. I was very full but satisfied by the end and enjoyed all the products of the afternoon tea. I certainly enjoyed my birthday treat!
