New Products Review: Savoury Snacks (Part 2)

Hello there!
I really enjoyed trying and reviewing the sweet products for my last post so I decided to do a savoury snacks version. I would say that I have more of a sweet tooth but I do like to try savoury snacks and some of these have been a winner! I will link where you can get the products from at the end of each product review. Be sure to check out my full blog which has other reviews and recipes on it! Enjoy!

Savoury Snacks Review

Product 1: Emily Crisps Sea Salt Sweet Potato Sticks

Packaging
The packaging is absolutely gorgeous and super colourful. The colours used really captures the variety of colours that sweet potatoes have themselves. It is also quite obvious from the packaging what the product is which is useful. I also like the fonts used, makes it seem a classy but fun brand.

Thoughts on the Product
It seemed like you didn't get that many crisps in the packet when I opened it but they are surprisingly filling. They are much denser than usual crisps, although I did really like the texture of them. They had a good salted flavour without being too salty. What I liked the most was that they didn't seem greasy like some crisps are which is why I don't eat crisps that often.

Value for Money
The pack was 35g and cost 99p which is only a little more expensive than individual packets of crisps that you can buy in the supermarket. I would say that it does seem like you don't get much for your money but because they are stick shaped they are denser and more filling.

Overall Score
I would score them a 8/10 as I did like them but their flavour was similar to other vegetables crisps I have had before. I do like how they are sticks though and I would probably have them again as I loved the texture.

Product 2: Indie Bay Rock Salt Spelt Pretzel Bites

Packaging
I like the packaging of this product as it goes well with the theme of rock salt and the sea. The blue is quite eye catching and I like that they had a picture of the product on the pack as it helps you to determine exactly what the product is.

Thoughts on the Product
I really love pretzels of any kind so I was interested to try these, especially to see if they taste any different when made of spelt. However, I wasn't hugely impressed with the product. They did have a pretzel flavour and I like the concept. However, many of mine seemed like they were over-baked so had dark areas on them. The bake was very uneven and, sadly, this effected the flavour of the product. Visually they look like the image on pack but mine were just overcooked, maybe it was just that batch.

Value for Money
I paid 99p for 26g which I would say is a little expensive for what you get a mini bag of pretzels for cheaper. I would say they are a wholesome and filling snack though so perhaps as a one off to go with your lunch is fine but not something I would buy very often.

Overall Score
I would score this product 5/10 as the bake was just very uneven and the burnt edges really effected the visual and flavour of the product. The areas that were cooked well did taste lovely but I am not sure if they are worth the money. Like I say, though, I might have just got a bad batch by accident. They do a chocolate-covered pretzel range which I might try at some point.

Product 3: Brave Salt and Vinegar Roasted Peas

Packaging
The packaging is very pastel so not hugely eye-catching on a supermarket shelf but it does give you calm and quite natural vibes. I like the droplet details, likely to mimic the vinegar aspect. The information on the front is very clear and useful to the customer.

Thoughts on the Product
I have tried a few products similar to this before but in other flavours so I wasn't going in completely blind. Personally, the vinegar flavour was a little too strong. If you like vinegar then these certainly have a punch to them, but for me it was just a bit too much, especially when the peas themselves are quite small. I like the concept is good as it can help people to get more plant proteins in their diets. You also get a generous portion so they make a filling snack.

Value for Money
I paid 99p for 35g which I would say is fairly good value for money as you get lots of these little peas in a packet. They are good to snack on or if you're someone who grazes throughout the day.

Overall Score
I think the concept is great and ideal for vegans. Personally, the salt and vinegar flavour was just a bit too strong for me, though that might be down to personal tastes so I would score them a 7/10. I would be interested in trying some of their other products.

Product 4: Olly's Olives Lemon and Thyme Olives

Packaging
I really love the packaging of these olives and also Olly's Olives other products as it is super colourful and eye-catching. They have illustrations which make it obvious the flavour and it is easy to read. I also like that they put the calories clear on the front as that can be really useful for some consumers.

Thoughts on the Product
I think this product is great and as a concept isn't super new as you can buy olives that are in packs like this which are ambient in many supermarkets but they successfully added a modern twist to it and made them more suitable for everyday snacking. The olives themselves had a lovely balanced flavour and they were high quality olives. They certainly added a little bit of sophisticated snacking to my lunctime!

Value for Money
This sachet was 99p for 50g which is pricey in comparison to a jar of standard green olives you can buy. However, I actually think they are worth the price as you do get a generous portion size so you could easily share them or use them in a pasta dish. The quality and flavour of the olives are also better than most I have had from jars just bought in your standard supermarket. If I see them on offer I would definitely purchase them again. Yum!

Overall Score
I would score these a solid 9/10 as I really like their products and the packaging is modern. It's an original idea and with how delicious and high-quality the olives are I would happily have them again.

Product 5: Kings Black Bean Veggie Jerky

Packaging
The packaging is quite standard but they do make it obvious that it is a vegan jerky so it is easy to not get confused. The text is clear and they use union jacks to show it is a British brand. I like the claims on the front since it can help someone to decide if they will buy the product.

Thoughts on the Product
I must admit, I am not really a fan of normal jerk from whenever I had tried it before I became vegetarian because of the texture. I thought I would give this a go anyway as some vegetarian alternatives have a less chewy and softer texture which I prefer. The flavour of these certainly had a kick from the black bean sauce. I think it might be better to have a chilli on the front, though, as it does have a bit of a spicy kick which I liked but wasn't expecting. I think this product would be great in a recipe like egg fried rice or a stir fry as the flavour and texture is really great.

Value for Money
This is quite expensive for a single portion being £1.49 for 25g so I probably wouldn't buy it again unless it is on offer. I would like to try it in a stir fry though as I think that would work great with the flavour.

Overall Score
I would score this product a 7/10 as it is certainly an innovative product and does mimic jerky well. I like the flavour, though some people find it a little spicy. I would be interested to try the product in a Chinese dish but I am unlikely to buy it again just as a snack mainly because of the price.
