Wild Blackberry and Apple Crumble

Hello there!
It is finally September! I might be the only one excited but I do love autumn for the orange and red leaves, how it is acceptable to wear winter boots and jumpers when it gets cold and of course picking blackberries! September is the perfect time to pick wild blackberries and ones growing in your garden and I'm going to share with you how to make a crumble using them. This pudding pairs blackberries with apples to make a sweet golden crumble, perfect with custard. Enjoy!

The Recipe: Wild Blackberry and Apple Crumble

Serves 4-6
  • 85g plain flour
  • 170g butter
  • 85g caster sugar
  • 3 large bramley apples
  • Blackberries
  • 60g granulated sugar

Preheat an oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4. Grease a large oven proof dish.

In a bowl, rub the butter into the flour until it resembles bread crumbs and then stir in the caster sugar. This forms the crumble that will sit on top of the fruit.

Peel the apples and cut into slices and arrange into one layer in the dish. Add a third of the blackberries, sprinkle over a few tablespoons of granulated sugar and a few teaspoons of water. Repeat with the rest of the apple, sugar and water to form three layers. Sprinkle the crumble mix over the top of the fruit and place in the oven for 35-40 minutes or until it is golden and bubbling a little at the edges. Serve with custard.
